Why was my student assigned a certain skill in their ILP?

Individualized Learning Paths (ILPs) in Classworks are a data-driven intervention framework designed to support students as they move from their current instructional level toward grade-level expectations. ILPs are established based on student performance data and provide a structured, standards-aligned pathway for growth.

Skill Units can be assigned based on student assessment data

  • Academic Screeners by Classworks
  • Progress Monitoring within Classworks
  • MAP
  • Renaissance Learning Star
  • iReady
  • Or they may be assigned directly by a teacher or staff member based on instructional judgment

Step-by-Step Guidance

  • Navigate to the Individualized Learning tab.
  • Locate a student
  • Select View Detail along the right side of the screen

Rachel Carson is the student we will view in this sample

Rachel's student detail screen opens to the Individualized Learning section

  • Notice that each skill unit is listed in a table
  • Look for the + sign in front of the unit name
  • Click the + sign for one unit

In the sample below, the teacher clicked the + sign for Introducing the Formula for Perimeter

After clicking the + sign, an expanded view with a list of the activities in the unit appears.

At the bottom of the component list, you will see History

Click History to see the data source(s) that placed this skill on the student's ILP

A new window opens

The unit name is shown at the top

A list of interactions appears, with the most recent action at the top

Academic Screeners by Classworks

In the sample below, Rachel was assigned this unit on December 2, 2025, due to her Classworks Universal Screener performance

She completed the unit on January 5, 2026

The examples shown below illustrate the History screen when multiple data sources recommend a specific skill unit

Teacher Recommendation

In the sample below:

  • Rachel was assigned this skill on Sep 16
  • Her teacher, Ms. Morris, customized her ILP and removed it from her path on Oct 3
  • Rachel's screener performance in Dec initially didn't recommend adding this back to her ILP, and a later screener completed on Dec 4, recommended it, and activated it on her ILP
