What is the Target (ROI) Rate of Improvement?
The Target Rate of Improvement (ROI) is the estimate of how much the student is expected to improve each week over the 12-week Progress Monitoring session. This information helps teaching staff quickly measure the effectiveness of the intervention.
Setting Rate of Improvement
- Teaching staff choose between a Moderate and an Aggressive rate of improvement when they activate a progress monitoring session.
- Classworks uses the Least Squares method to automatically determine the (moderate/aggressive) Rate of Improvement (green line) based on the goal selected
- Each student's Rate of Improvement line is different - based on their baseline and the expected goal.
Viewing Rate of Improvement
- The Target Rate of Improvement (ROI) is displayed as a solid green line on the Progress Monitoring graph
The Target Rate appears once the student has completed 3 Probes/CBMs. The starting point of the line is determined by the median of those initial three scores.

Adjusting Rate of Improvement
Staff can adjust the ROI at any time during the Progress Monitoring session. We respect that you know each student better than anyone else and should use your best judgment when setting your students' goals, but there are a few things to consider.
What to Consider
- The frequency of the interventions the student is receiving and the acceleration of learning expected during the intervention duration.
- Set a realistic yet challenging goal. You want the students to see success and be challenged without becoming frustrated.
- The goal can be changed after the set of probes is assigned. It can be adjusted at the individual student level if needed.
- If you are unsure of which goal to select, start with the lower goal (moderate). You can always raise the goal based on the student's actual ROI if needed.

How to Adjust
- Locate the dropdown menu along the right side of the screen.
- Use the dropdown to update the ROI goal

The Graph will update automatically to display the change in Rate of Improvement and the goal line
