What is the difference between a Moderate goal and an Aggressive goal?

Setting a moderate or aggressive goal reflects the amount of growth desired for each student during the progress monitoring session.

Domain-Based CBMs

Goal Expectations

Domain-based CBM probes in Classworks are scored on a 0–100 percent scale.

  • A moderate goal targets a score of 70 percent by the end of 12 weeks.
  • An aggressive goal is to achieve a score of 80 percent by the end of 12 weeks.

Student Sample

Moderate

Look at the student's data below:

  • Lise completed 3 probes, and a baseline was identified.
    • In the image, the baseline is marked with point A.
  • The teacher set Lise's ROI at moderate, so her goal is to achieve a 70% score at the end of the 12 weeks.
    • In the image, this is marked with point B. Lise's teacher set a moderate goal, so point B is equal to 70%.

The difference between Point A and Point B has been used to determine how many percentage points Lise needs to improve each week to meet her goal.

This is shown in the image below, along the right side of the screen underneath "Moderate". In this example, Lise needs to increase her weekly score by 1.54545% to reach 70% by the 12th week.

The actual growth Lise is making is shown in two ways

  1. Above the graph, along the left side. Lise is exceeding the growth needed and is currently improving her scores by 2.5714% per week.
  2. With the yellow line on the graph

Aggressive

Look at the student's data below:

  • Lise completed 3 probes, and a baseline was identified.
    • In the image, the baseline is marked with point A.
  • The teacher set Lise's ROI at aggressive, so her goal is to achieve a 80% score at the end of the 12 weeks.
    • In the image, this is marked with point B. Lise's teacher set a aggressive goal, so point B is equal to 80%.

The difference between Point A and Point B has been used to determine how many percentage points Lise needs to improve each week to meet her goal.

This is shown in the image below, along the right side of the screen underneath "Aggressive". In this example, Lise needs to increase her weekly score by 2.45455% to reach 80% by the 12th week.

The actual growth Lise is making is shown in two ways

  1. Above the graph, along the left side. Lise is not achieving the growth needed and is currently only improving her scores by 2.5714% per week.
  2. With the yellow line on the graph

Curriculum Sampling CBMs

Goal Expectations

Curriculum Sampling CBMs are scored with the same scale scores used on the Universal Screeners by Classworks. These scores help teachers identify and measure growth in each student's grade-level readiness.

  • A moderate goal aligns with the next Universal Screener assessment window. This represents the expected level of readiness a student should demonstrate by the next screening period.
  • An aggressive goal aligns with the second upcoming Universal Screener assessment window, reflecting accelerated growth toward grade-level expectations.

Student Sample

Moderate

Look at the student's data below:

  • Grace completed several probes, and a baseline of 250 scale score was identified.
    • In the image, the baseline is marked with point A.
  • The teacher set Grace's ROI at moderate, so her goal is to achieve the Scale Score Target of the next assessment window at the end of the 12 weeks.
    • In the image, this is marked with point B. Lise's teacher set a moderate goal, so point B is equal to 290.

The difference between Point A and Point B has been used to determine how many points Grace needs to improve each week to meet her goal.

This is shown in the image below, along the right side of the screen underneath "Moderate". In this example, Grace needs to increase her weekly score by 3.63636 to reach 290 by the 12th week.

The actual growth Grace is making is shown in two ways

  1. Above the graph, along the left side. Grace is exceeding the growth needed and is currently improving her scores by 4.16667 per week.
  2. With the yellow line on the graph

Aggressive

Look at the student's data below:

  • Grace completed several probes, and a baseline of 250 scale score was identified.
    • In the image, the baseline is marked with point A.
  • The teacher set Grace's ROI at aggressive, so her goal is to achieve a 330 scale score at the end of the 12 weeks.
    • In the image, this is marked with point B. Grace's teacher set an aggressive goal, so point B is equal to 330.

The difference between Point A and Point B has been used to determine how many points Grace needs to improve each week to meet her goal.

This is shown in the image below, along the right side of the screen underneath "Aggressive". In this example, Grace needs to increase her weekly score by 7.27273 to reach 330 by the 12th week.

The actual growth Grace is making is shown in two ways

  1. Above the graph, along the left side. Grace is not making the growth needed and is currently only improving her scores by 4.16667 per week.
  2. With the yellow line on the graph
