How do I use the information on SE Competency Survey Insights?

To monitor and take action on student strengths and gaps in the CASEL core competencies

  • Count of students with available SE competency data from each testing window
  • General and competency-specific response details
  • Lists of enrolled students, including survey date and competency averages for each individual student.

As an administrator, this dashboard has automatically been added to your Insights page.

These reports are not available at the teacher level.


Step-by-Step Guidance

Controls allow you to filter the data by school or student subgroup, helping you focus on the specific users or trends you want to review.

Testing Windows: The survey is available during each assessment window. Select the specific survey to view

Select Schools: Filter to specific schools or view the district as a whole

Grade Level: Filter to monitor or review grade levels.

The survey is available at all grades, but the method of submitting the results varies depending on the student's grade level.

Teacher Reported: Teachers submit the survey for students who are enrolled in pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade

Student Reported: Students enrolled in 4th grade and above submit their own survey

Reading the Graph

Students surveyed are reported for the school or district

  • Displays the total count of students for whom a survey has been submitted
  • Displays the surveyed students as a percentage of students enrolled in Classworks

What to Look For

Compare the count of completed surveys with the enrollment count.

  • Have the appropriate students completed a survey?
  • Are there specific schools or grade levels that would benefit from support?

Global Social-Emotional Skills (Global)

Reading the Graph

Displays the count of surveyed students by grouping them into four categories based on the average of their question responses

Very Difficult: Average score is less than 19

Difficult: Average score is between 20 and 29

Easy: Average score is between 30 and 39

Very Easy: Average score is 40

What to Look For

  • Each question asks students to rate scenarios by how easy or difficult they would be to face.
  • The global skills score is the average of all questions asked (40 questions in the student-reported survey and 17 questions in the teacher-reported survey)
