How do I use the information on the Progress Monitoring Insights?

To measure or monitor your Classworks adoption by identifying:

  • How many and which students have been assigned progress monitoring
  • Whether or not students are on target with their rate of improvement
  • How consistently do students complete their weekly probes
  • How many students are being progress monitored in each domain

As an administrator, this dashboard has automatically been added to your Insights page.

These reports are not available at the teacher level.

Step-by-Step Guidance

Set Student-Related Filters

Controls allow you to filter the data by school or student subgroup, helping you focus on the specific users or trends you want to review.

Read more about how these filters work

Select Schools: Filter to specific schools or view the district as a whole

Gender: Filter to monitor or review gender subgroups (If demographic data has been shared with Classworks)

Demographic Data:  Select specific demographic groups.

Note:

True = students who have been flagged as members of this subgroup

False = students who have not been flagged

Controls allow you to filter the data by subject, suggested tier, rate of improvement, and status, helping you focus on the specific trends you want to review.

Subject: Choose either reading or mathematics

Suggested Tier: Choose specific percentile ranges or view all

Percentile Ranges are available for students who've completed the Classworks Screener or one of our partner assessments that report this data to Classworks.

Unknown: Students who have not taken a screener or whose screener doesn't include percentiles

At/Above Grade Level Readiness: Students who performed ≥ than the 40th percentile

On Watch: Students who performed between the 25th and 40th percentile

Intervention: Students who performed between the 10th and 25th percentile

Urgent Intervention: Students who performed below the 10th percentile

Rate of Improvement: Choose specific rates of improvement to view

Rate-of-Improvement indicates whether the student is making the expected progress on their weekly probes (quizzes)

Below Target: The student is not making the expected progress

On Target: The student is making the expected progress

TBD: This is a placeholder and indicates that the student has not completed their first 3 probes. Three probes are required to establish a baseline and a goal.

Status: Choose to view completed or active sessions or both

Progress Monitoring sessions contain 12 weekly probes. Choose which types of sessions to view.

Assigned: Sessions currently active are those that students are completing now

Completed: Sessions that are finished

After setting the filters, you'll see the student count. This is the total number of students whose data is included in the graphs and tables below.

Suggested Tier by Rate of Improvement

Horizontal bar graph that shows the different rates of improvement by the suggested tier

Reading the Graph

  • The different rates of improvement are displayed along the left axis
  • The count of students is shown along the bottom axis
  • Color coding matching the suggested tiers is shown on each bar of the graph
  • Hovering over a section of the bar graph will show specific data

What to Look For

  • TBD (To Be Determined): This is a placeholder rate of improvement.
    • All the students whose data is included in this bar haven't completed their first three probes yet.
    • If the sessions have just started and are in weeks 1 or 2, a large group of students should be expected in this bar
  • On Target: These students are making the expected growth and are on target to reach the teacher-set goal by the end of the session
  • Below Target: These students are not making the expected growth

Rate of Improvement By School

Bar graph by school indicating the current rate of improvement at each school.

Reading the Graph

Each school is shown in a stacked bar

  • Current Rates of Improvement (ROI) are stacked for each school
    • Grey: TBD (Less than 3 probes completed per student)
    • Red: Below Target
    • Blue: On Target

What to Look For

  • Assigned Probe Sessions: Are probes assigned for the expected number of students?
    • Look at Corporate Elementary - over 120 students have active sessions.
    • Compare that to Explore Elementary, where about half that number have active sessions.
    • If both of these schools have roughly equal enrollments and students who should have progress monitoring, Explore Elementary would benefit from additional support
  • Rate of Improvement: Have students established a baseline score? Are they making expected progress?
    • Look at the schools with large grey sections on their bar. This indicates students who haven't completed three probes yet.
    • Look at the schools with large red sections on their bar. This indicates students who have established a baseline, but aren't making the expected growth. Are students aware of the importance of progress monitoring? (They can view their graphs when they log in)

Progress Monitoring Grade Level Mapping

This grid table displays the number of students by enrolled grade level and the level of their Progress Monitoring session

Reading the Table

  • The students' enrolled grade levels are shown in the first column
  • The grade level of the assigned Progress Monitoring session is shown across the top row
  • The count of students matching each enrolled grade and assigned Progress Monitoring level is shown in each cell of the table
  • The total number of students at each enrolled grade is shown in the last column
  • The total number of students with Progress Monitoring at each level is shown in the bottom row

What to Look For

  • Have the appropriate students been assigned progress monitoring?
    • Classworks recommends assigning Progress Monitoring for students receiving tier 2 and tier 3 support
  • Are students assigned Progress Monitoring at appropriate levels?
    • Progress Monitoring probes are essentially quizzes, with no direct instruction. Classworks recommends assigning probes at or below the enrolled grade levels
    • Look at the 4th-grade row below.  1 student has been assigned Progress Monitoring at the 7th grade level. Clicking that specific cell in the table will update all of the data on the dashboard so you can view which school this student is enrolled at, and their rate of improvement.

Pie Charts

Three pie charts provide additional data about the types of sessions, different rates of improvement, and consistency of completing the weekly probes.

Student Count by Progress Monitoring Type

  • Domain-based: Objectives from a single domain at the selected grade level equivalent (GLE)
  • Curriculum Sampling: Objectives from all domains at the selected GLE

Rate of Improvement Count

The rate of Improvement is determined after the first three probes have been completed

TBD (To Be Determined): Percentage of students who haven't yet completed three or more weekly probes

On Target: Percentage of students whose trend line is equal to or greater than the target rate of improvement

Below Target: Percentage of students whose trend line is below and not on track to achieve the target rate of improvement

Participation Count

Participation is determined by how consistently students are completing their weekly probes

Low: Percentage of students who've completed less than 50% of their assigned probes

Moderate: Percentage of students who've completed between 50% and 80% of their assigned probes

High: Percentage of students who've completed 80% or more of their assigned probes

Progress Monitoring Details

At the bottom of the insight is a table that shows a summary of each student's work on each progress monitoring session

This table can be exported as a .csv and used for deeper analysis
