What are the differences in scoring Curriculum Sampling and Domain-based CBM probes?

Curriculum Sampling probes are scored using the Universal Screener Scaled Scores and Domain-based probes are scored using percentages.

Scoring of Domain-based Probes

Look at the sample graph below:

  1. Baseline Determined: The median of the student's first three probes determines the starting point
In this example the median of the first 3 probes was 23%. That is where the green (Target Rate of Improvement) and yellow (student's actual Rate of Improvement) lines begin.
  1. Target Rate of Improvement: This is determined by the type of goal the teacher selected  In this example the teacher selected an Aggressive goal
    1. Moderate - 70% goal by the end of 12 weeks
    1. Aggressive - 80% goal by the end of 12 weeks
  1. Moderate/Aggressive ROI: Classworks calculates the trend line using an ordinary least squares regression equation. (A constant slope from baseline to the goal)
In this example the Target Rate of Improvement is a constant sloped line from 23% (the child's baseline) and 80% the Aggressive Goal. The student needs to improve 5.1818% each week to reach this goal.
  1. Student Rate of Improvement:  How many percentage points the student needs to improve weekly to reach the 12-week goal
In this example the student is currently improving their weekly score by an average of 4.2518%. The student is performing below the target needed to reach their goal.

Scoring of Curriculum Sampling Probes

Look at the sample graph below:

  1. Baseline Determined: The median of the student's first three probes determines the starting point
In this example the median of the first 3 probes was 220 That is where the green (Target Rate of Improvement) and yellow (student's actual Rate of Improvement) lines begin.
  1. Target Rate of Improvement: This is determined by the type of goal the teacher selected  In this example the teacher selected a Moderate goal
    1. Moderate - Score at or above the next assessment target (Make 18 weeks of growth in 12 weeks)
    1. Aggressive - Score at or above the second next assessment target (Make 36 weeks of growth in 12 weeks)
  1. Moderate/Aggressive ROI: Classworks calculates the trend line using an ordinary least squares regression equation. (A constant slope from baseline to the goal)
In this example the Target Rate of Improvement is a constant sloped line from 220 (the child's baseline) and 240 the Moderate Goal. The student needs to improve 0.9091 each week to reach this goal.
  1. Student Rate of Improvement:  How many percentage points the student needs to improve weekly to reach the 12-week goal
In this example the student is currently improving their weekly score by an average of 3.3631. The student is performing on target to reach their goal.
