Summer Learning Based on Essential Standards

The Classworks team has identified essential standards for each grade for your students to work on all summer. These standards were identified using the following criteria:

Endurance

Knowledge and skills of value beyond a single test date.
Example: Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in a text relevant to a specific grade topic or subject area. (ELA)

Leverage

Knowledge and skills of value in multiple disciplines
Example: Explain events, procedures, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text, including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text. (Cross-curricular from ELA to Science and Social Studies)

Readiness for the next level of learning

Knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in the next grade level or in the next level of instruction.
Example: Read and write numbers from 100 to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. (Math 1 to 2 grade)

The essential standards are found throughout this summer learning program. Whether students are completing independent practice in their learning progression or in the station rotations designed to engage students in hands-on learning with Classworks resources, you can feel confident they are learning exactly they need.
