What is a Mastery Measure and how do I create a new one?
Measures in Mastery Measurement are teacher-developed specific long-term annual academic goals. Teachers can choose to use a formal academic goal like an IEP or 504 plan as the Mastery Measure for a specific student.
Each measure is a place to graph progress on multiple specific objectives. Student growth and progress toward proficiency with each objective is documented as the student completes weekly probes.
You create a new measure by selecting a student from the Progress Monitoring screen.
Step-by-Step Guidance
Select a Student
From the Progress Monitoring screen, click on the student’s name
Select Mastery Measurement
From the menu along the left side of the screen
Select “Add Measure” in the top right corner
Name the Measure
Give the Measure a name and add a written description. Remember, this is the name of the overall or long term goal. This can correspond to a formal academic goal. This typically lasts the entire school year. Then click “Save”.
Whatever you name the Mastery Measure will be printed on the report.
View the New Measure
- After clicking “Save” the new measurement will be seen on the screen.
- You have now created the repository where all data about the related objectives you measure throughout the year will be maintained.
The Next Step
Now you are ready to describe the first short term objective that the student will receive weekly probes to measure growth.
