Using Progress Monitoring with NWEA Status Norms

Using Progress Monitoring with NWEA Status Norms

2024 NWEA Update

NWEA is in the process of recalibrating its RIT scale and adopting an enhanced item selection algorithm in their newer assessments. These product updates are being released across both growth and screening tests with some states experiencing updates during the 2023-2024 school year and others seeing the changes in 2024-2025. NWEA is in a calibration phase and has identified 2025 as the target for releasing new status and growth norms.

Classworks does not recommend using the below status norms if you are using this version of the NWEA test.

Now that you have your NWEA test data, you can use student RIT scores to identify what level you will want to Progress Monitor your students in Classworks using Curriculum Sampling.

Reading and Language Usage

The Grade Level RIT ranges for Reading and Language Usage are close, but may not match up exactly. Using the two tables below, decide which area is more important to you to then determine which Progress Monitoring level to set your student. Remember, Classworks Progress Monitoring tests both areas, but your judgment is what matters.
