How much time should my students be using Classworks each day?

At Classworks, we suggest you set aside 45 minutes each day to work inside our application. This allows time for:

  1. Screening
  2. Intervention work
  3. Progress monitoring
  4. Goal tracking
Students who consistently spend 30+ minutes weekly working on each Learning Path (Reading and Math) achieve the expected achievement growth!
Students' actual time on task will most likely be closer to about 30 minutes but setting aside 45 minutes provides a buffer for students to get logged in and set up, switching between activities, etc. to ensure they have that time to get a full session in.

Let's take a look at an example week for a student!

  • Monday students could complete their Reading and their Math Progress Monitoring probes, then spend a few minutes creating their SMART goal for the week.

  • Tuesday they might spend time working in their ELA individualized learning progression, with a teacher check-in afterward.

  • Wednesday they could then spend time working in their Math individualized learning progression, with a few minutes taken to reflect on their progress toward their SMART goal.

  • Thursday can be dedicated to working in both their Math and ELA progressions and might include a teacher check-in as we reach the end of the week.

  • Friday they could spend time working in their Math and ELA progressions again, with a few minutes taken to reflect on their SMART goal.

The above example shows a student spending approximately 60 minutes on instruction, per subject, for the whole week. For your tier 2 and tier 3 students, we would suggest more time is set aside for them to be able to complete 60-90 minutes per subject per week in their ELA and Math ILPs.
