When using multiple forms of an assessment, there will be variations in scores across forms and from one test administration to another. These variations make it difficult to compare students’ scores across test administrations and over time. Classworks has created a common vertical scale based upon national field test results to alleviate this issue.
Classworks formal assessments provide parallel forms to allow comparability of scores over time and to allow accurate measurement of growth.
Vertically scaling students’ scores allows the comparison of test scores across individual administrations of a test. It also allows a meaningful comparison of those scores from year to year to document student progress.
The following tables display the scaled cut scores for Universal Screeners and for Benchmark assessments.
Readiness Level Cut/Target Scores for the Universal Screener Assessments
Test Administered: 2nd Grade Math Screener
2nd Grade Student
Score: 290 or Above - Student is ready for 2nd-grade instruction.
Score: Below 290 - student may need additional intervention.
Proficiency Level Cut/Target Scores for the Summative Benchmark Assessments
Test Administered: 4th Grade Math Benchmark
4th Grade Student
Score: 1420 or Above - Student is proficient on 4th-grade skills*.
Score: Below 1420 - the student is not proficient on 4th-grade skills*.
Note: The scaled scores for Summative Benchmark and Universal Screener assessments are not comparable. The Summative Benchmark assessments are on-grade level tests for measuring student growth. The Universal Screeners are readiness tests. They combine on-grade level material with items from lower grades. While this allows a broader picture of a student’s progress, the results are not comparable.
Scaled Scores are expected to increase over the course of the year. The following tables list the expected target scores for the beginning, middle, and end of the year for each grade and subject.
