Teachers can use the Social-Emotional Skills Survey (SESS) to gain valuable insight into the whole student. The survey measures global social-emotional competencies as well as eight subdomains. This is a student-facing survey for students in grades 4-12.

Once a student completes the SE Survey, teachers can view the results anywhere the Student Details screen is accessed.


Viewing Results

1. On the Individualized Learning page, use the filters at the top to see your students.

2. Next, click the view detail button to view the Student Detail Screen.

3. Click the SE Survey Menu option on the left.

4. Hover over the Global Social-Emotional Skills Score to view when the student completed the most recent survey and how many attempts they have remaining for that testing window.


Reading and Interpreting Results

On the SE Survey page, teachers will see the student’s overall score and a breakdown of their score for each skill category.

In the survey, students answer each question, based on ease or difficulty. Each answer choice will be given a value of 10 (very difficult), 20 (difficult), 30 (easy), or 40 (very easy).

Teachers will not see the individual student answers, however, they will see an overall average for each SE Skill category. Below are the score ranges for each level:

  • 10-19 - Very Difficult (Red)

  • 20-29 - Difficult (Yellow)

  • 30-39 - Easy (Green)

  • 40 - Very Easy (Blue)

Let’s take a look at this student:

Globally, they scored an average of 25 (Difficult) across all questions (this is not an average of each of the category averages, but rather, an average across all 40 questions).

Below their Global score, we can see their average for each category. In several categories their average score was difficult. We can see that Self-Management: Emotion Regulation is something that is very difficult for them and Self-Management: Goal Management is something that feels easy for them.

The survey provides a quantitative score or result, which is used to compare individual students or groups of students to each other. The results of these surveys are used to help students develop SMART goals that support their personal and academic development.


Printing Results

Teachers can print the results for a single student or print results for multiple students, grouping them together by their results.

Print Individual Results

1. Access the Student Detail Page for the student and click SE Survey on the left-side menu

2. Click Print in the upper right

3. The report will open in a new browser tab. Right-click to Print this screen.

Print Multiple Results

1. Navigate to the Reports tab then click Social-Emotional in the menu options on the left.

2. Under Social-Emotional Competency Grouping Report click create.

3. Select which students you would like to generate this report for using the following filters:

  • School - If you have permissions at multiple schools, select which school you would like to run this report for.

  • Classes - All Classes is automatically selected. Use the dropdown to select your class(es); or,

  • Selected Students - click this to pick specific students for this report.

Under Filter:

  • Custom Groups - All Custom Groups is automatically selected. Use the dropdown to select a specific Custom Group(s); or,

  • Choose Demographics - select specific grade levels, genders, races, and other characteristics of students you would like included in the report. Click Apply.

4. Choose your Report Options:

  • Give your report a name

  • Choose to Summarize By Selected Students

  • Select your testing window(s)

5. Review your selections and click create.

6. A preview of your report will appear! In the top right, click PDF to print or download the report, or click the back arrow on the left to return to the settings if changes needed to be made.

**Note: If a selected student has not completed the survey, you will see their name(s) appear under the No Score Column.
